Things are kicking into high gear this month at Yonge-Dundas Square! One of the things we love the most about living in this neighbourhood is how active it is. There is always something going on right at our doorstep. June is when all the weekly summer programs at Yonge-Dundas kickoff, not to mention it marks the kickoff to festival season in Toronto.

Here’s what you should be checking out this month:

Ontario Tourism Day – June 5
This all day event aims to educate Torontonians just what there is to discover in our province. Ontario Tourism Day goes from 11am to 7pm and brings together local entertainment, products (mainly food!), and information on attractions you’re encouraged to venture to all over the province this summer.

Lunchtime Live – June 8, 15
On these two dates (both are a Monday) you can catch performances from local musicians starting at 12:30pm. If you work in the neighbourhood, it’s a great opportunity to get out and enjoy some tunes and fresh air midday. Although these are the only dates in June, this program picks back up in the fall.

Fountain Day – June 8, 15, 22, 29
Every single Monday for the rest of the summer is Fountain Day – something anyone who lives in the neighbourhood looks forward to. If you’re not sure what we’re talking about, it means the ground fountains in Yonge-Dundas Square are turned on and available for you to run through if you feel like cooling off. The kids love it.

City Cinema – June 16, 23, 30
Tuesday evenings throughout the summer draw a large crowd to the Square to watch a free outdoor film. This month 8 Mile, The Hunger, and A Star is Born are all playing

Session Toronto Craft Beer Festival – June 13
This beer festival drew a huge crowd last year. With craft breweries on the rise, especially in Ontario, this is a great place for beer lovers to sample new local products, eat some great food, and listen to live music. Some of the breweries you can expect to see there this year include Steam Whistle, Wellington Brewery, Beau’s, Sawdust City, Flying Monkey, and more.

NXNE – June 19, 20, 21
One of the most anticipated music festivals of the year largely takes place at Yonge-Dundas Square. Happening from June 19 to 21 this year, you can catch some of great artists at the stage set up in the Square on Saturday and Sunday night, and it’s entirely free!
