We know where we’re getting our holiday shopping done! This year a brand new pop-up market is coming to our neighbourhood, just south of our site on Yonge Street. The #localTOmrkt will be a taking over a vacant lot and filling it with handmade crafts and products made by local artisans.
It’s no surprise to us that they would choose Yonge Street as the location for the market. Some stats from Downtown Yonge on the #localTOmrkt website show that approximately 120,000 pass by the area on a weekly basis with 70% of the traffic being pedestrians, making it the perfect spot for people to pop into the market as they’re passing by. It’s also really accessible by TTC since the lot is just north of Dundas Station.
If you’re worried about shopping in the cold there’s no need to worry! The lot will be covered with tents and will be heated. There will also be a number of food trucks on site in case you feel like grabbing a bite.
With 7,500 square feet of space to work with, you can expect a wide variety of products to be available including things like clothing, cards, jewellery, and fun gift items. Natasha Singh, an experienced pop-up curator, has been in charge of picking and choosing which vendors will appear at the event. Right now Ad Hoc, the company running the event, is still looking for more vendors to sell at the market too (in case you’re interested).
The #localTOmrkt will be running every day from November 28 to December 24 (which means it will still be there for all you last minute shoppers!) at 335 Yonge Street, just north of Dundas. It’s a great excuse to get your friends and family gifts this holiday season that are a bit out of the box, while supporting local talent!
