Smart Home Technology & Canderel
We recently made a big announcement regarding a new partnership between our developer Canderel, Samsung Canada, and True Marque to bring smart home technology to our building with the Canderel Digital Home program. Connected living is quickly becoming a new frontier and we’re excited to be one of the first buildings in Canada to really get on board with the idea that technology should help you unlock your front door, adjust your lighting, and control other aspects of your home. That being said, the idea of the smart home has been around for years, but why is it just catching on now? And why is it a better choice for home living? We’ll tell you.
One of the best parts of living in a connected home (and possibly one of the most obvious) is that you don’t have to worry about what’s going on inside your home - or have that panicked moment where you wonder if you remembered to lock the front door. There’s no need to worry because locking it is right at your fingertips on your smartphone or tablet.
One perk of smart living that may go unnoticed in your day-to-day life but is making an impact on the environment is its energy efficiency. Some smart home systems allow you to control your heat and air conditioning through your mobile device so you can conserve energy while you’re not in the house, and others let you control all of the lighting in your home (who really needs all their lights blazing when no one’s home?). All of these things provide a convenience to you while simultaneously helping the environment. It’s a win-win!
Smart homes aren’t common right now, especially in condo buildings, but it’s expected that within five years the smart home will become more mainstream, growing from a $10 billion business this year to $44 billion by 2017, according to CNN. Also, with companies like Google investing in technology like the Nest Thermostat (which they purchased for $3 billion this year), it’s obvious that the anticipation for this market is growing.
What people really want is a unified experience across all aspects of their life, and smart home technology does just that, especially those with components linked to your smartphone or tablet which are constantly by our sides. Having complete control over your environment makes taking care of your place seamless and gives homeowners a better sense of access and security.
Smart technology doesn’t affect the home itself as much as it affects our way of living, really. It’s an exciting time to be part of something that’s just coming to life and will be completely established by the time the next generation of homebuyers arrives, and we’re happy our tenants will get to be a part of that!
